Adopting a consistent and unified approach to talent identification

A simple yet comprehensive talent identification process empowers leaders to adopt a unified talent management approach.

The Challenge

We were engaged by a Global Technology company to design a talent identification process that could be easily adopted by senior leaders across the organisation. While the organisation had an existing talent identification process it was outdated, complex and therefore not used consistently by the business.
The solution needed to be easy to use and provide leaders with supporting tools that would enable them to feel confident with the process and able to respond pragmatically to talent risks or challenges identified through the process.

The Approach

Following a review of the existing system, a talent identification tool and playbook was developed outlining the stages of the talent identification process and providing the tips and tools to be used by leaders at each stage of the process.

The talent identification tool captured information about the business/industry drivers and context as well as providing an interactive workbook with key criteria for identifying the leadership pipeline, including high potential and emerging talent. Risk and mitigation strategies associated with the identified talent could be captured within the workbook providing a succinct, integrated talent identification tool. Furthermore, the workbook enabled leaders to identify the focal roles for their business; which were groups of roles that had a disproportionate impact on business success.

The Outcome

This project has transformed the way talent is identified within the organisation by using evidence-based criteria and applying it in a consistent manner across the business globally. At a recent executive level talent roundtable conversation, the CEO noted this new process and tool has resulted in the most effective, powerful talent conversations the organisation has ever had. The organisation now has an easy to use talent identification tool and process which has empowered leaders to really own the identification and stewardship of talent for the business.
